COMMENTARY

On a trip to Georgia from Kentucky in 1990 I entertained the thought in the hour of my departure. I thought of the hour of my own home going to heaven some day. I could see myself on my death bed, awaiting the angel of the Lord to take me to be with the Lord forever. The intense emotions and joy experienced would allow the Christian to see “beyond there” into heaven. Perhaps the smell of heaven’s flowers would become prominent to the dying saint. Some Christians on their death beds have seen Jesus standing at the right hand of the Father, prepared to receive them into their eternal reward. God wants the testimony of the Christian to remain rich and pure so that the hour of departure will be a rare moment for testifying to a lifetime of the faithfulness of God in the life of the believer. At the end we will all take our “journey, passing stars along the way.” O what an eternal reward awaits the faithful who remain true to the cross and life of the Lord Jesus!
