COMMENTARY
For weeks I kept hearing the phrase in my mind: If I could live a thousand years. Finally, I slowed down enough to add a few more God-inspired words to that line:
If I could live a thousand years,
And dream ten thousand dreams,
The sum of all could not reveal
How Jesus truly seems.
Indeed, the Lord Jesus is so beautiful in His great life-giving love and tenderness toward us that it is indescribably wondrous! The phrase “The beauty in his handsome face” depicts His attractiveness to all people. He is loving, tender and soothing in His voice, and is ever outreaching to touch and heal. Finally, I am so blessed and transformed by His love that I can safely lie down in His presence. I look forward to the day when I am awakened by His kindly touch and can live forever, basking in His sunshine.
This poem can also be set to the music of many hymn tunes. The vast idea of living a thousand years and dreaming ten thousand dreams is a broad hint to us of how we can start by offering Him praise and adoration for the wonder of His sacrifice on Calvary’s cross for our salvation.
NOTE: This poem is one of many found in the collection Jewels from His Crown
